Servant Leadership

Christ has called us to serve one another in love.  Vibrant Christian Community is formed when we do just that.  Such a community is formed when we follow our Leader in the way He has taught us.

The leaders of Washington First UMC are Servant Leaders, following after the way of Christ.  Please contact the Pastor or a member of the Nomination & Leadership Team if you would like to find out more about becoming a servant leader.

We Covenant with God and One Another

This is the promise we have made and long to keep by the grace of God:

Dear friends, you have been called by God and chosen by the people of God for your leadership in the church.  This ministry is a blessing and a serious responsibility. It recognizes your special gifts and calls you to work among us and for us.  In love, we thank you for accepting your obligation and challenge you to offer your best to the Lord, to this people, and to our ministry in the world.  Live a life in Christ and make Him known in your witness and work.

Do you this day acknowledge yourself to be a faithful disciple of Jesus Christ?

Will you devote yourself to the service of God in the world?
Will you so live that you enable this church to be a people of love and peace?

Will you do all in your power to be responsible to the task for which you have been chosen?

Dear church, all who take upon themselves the name of Christ are called into ministries of love and service by the example of Christ. Rejoice that God has provided us with servant leaders for our labor.

Will you do all you can to assist and encourage them in the responsibilities to which they have been called, giving them your help, your cooperation, your appreciation and your prayers?

Our Prayer:
Almighty God, thank You for providing us with the servant leaders we need. Pour out Your blessing upon each of them. Give them grace that they may give themselves wholeheartedly in Your service.  Keep before them the example of our Lord Who did not think of Himself first, but Who gave Himself for us all. Let them share in Jesus’ ministry and consecration. Enable them to enter into His joy; renew their strength each day.  Guide them in their work. Reward their faithfulness with knowledge of Your purposes which are being accomplished through them.  In all our work together, may You be glorified.  In the name of Jesus Christ we pray.  Amen.
