We participate in God's Marketplace, Inc. with volunteers and supplies in the Food Pantry and Thrift Store. Tena Blakey is the director of the Thrift Store and it's success lies firmly in the hard work of Tena and her hardworking volunteers. Call store manager Rhonda Keen at 706-678-6363 to volunteer or donate items.
Buddy Lindsey is the Manager of the Food Pantry, call him to volunteer to work in the Food Panty or to donate food, 706-318-0494
We're excited about reaching out with the love of Jesus to all people; join us and become part of a group when you can by letting Tena know of your interest, giving her your name and number and being ready when she calls for help!

Prison Ministry
In 2008 we started a ministry to the inmates in the Wilkes Pre-Release Prison with one class of Henry Blackaby's course, Experiencing God. By the Winter of 2009 this ministry has grown to three classes, two teaching Experiencing God on Tuesday nights (one for our Spanish speaking brothers) and one equipping the men in other ways on Thursday nights. We hope to bring them hope and connect them in a dynamic way with Jesus Christ. Becky Stover, David Toburen and Jim Griggs and others spend time with the men each week leading them into a dynamic, life-changing relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. Becky has gone out and gotten help from some of the churches in the area including Lincolnton Assembly of God and Washington First Baptist. Freddie Brown, Gale and Rich Seibert and others worship with the men when they can on Friday nights.
When the men finish their courses, Laura Toburen and our choir, led by Shay Harris, organize quarterly Celebrations. In addition Laura Toburen organizes two family days at the WPRP: one in the summer and one at Christmas. At these the men get to enjoy their families, have lots of great food and share information. Civic groups as well as men's clubs (including Washington UMM) contribute money and time to make sure these Family Days are special for the men!
It is thrilling to watch God at work and to privileged to be part of His great work in the lives of people!
If you'd like more information about the prison ministry, please write Becky Stover at the church, Washington First UMC, PO Box 518, Washington, GA 30673
Prayer Ministry
Prayer is the backbone of all ministry in the church. Recently we called a time for prayer and met together to pray for God's leading. Many new ideas were shared and we are excited about what God is doing and about to do!
Please join us in prayer for our church, community and world.
If you have a prayer need or celebration, please contact Shelley Warrenfells, 706-678-7116, with your information.
Homebound
Bunny Gunby is in charge of homebound ministry. You can contact her by calling the church, 706-678-7116, and leaving your name, phone number and a brief message. We'll get the information to her. We believe that our homebound members are an important part of our church and visit them regularly. The Cornelia Johnson Circle regularly brings them meals and visits. In addition, children and students take time to visit and get to know our homebound members.
We believe God watches over all of us at all times and keeping that in mind, enjoy visiting our homebound friends often! They all were active at one time in the church and the good that they did is felt and appreciated by all of us.
