Washington First UMC partners with many churches in Wilkes County through the ministry of God’s Marketplace. The main objective of this faith-based organization is to provide temporary and emergency aid, in the name of Christ, to persons living in Wilkes County and surrounding areas. God's Marketplace is comprised of three areas of operation:
Food Pantry: Recently the God's Marketplace Food Pantry made a move to partner with Stephens House Food Pantry. The Food Pantry at Stephens House is open the third Saturday morning of each month. One hundred percent of checks for the Food Pantry sent to God's Marketplace will be used to further this ministry. God's Marketplace is donating an amount to Stephens House to further our partnership in aiding folks who need supplemental food. Thank you for your donation. Stephens House is located behind Sanctuary Church (1365 Tignall Rd.) across the road from the Washington-Wilkes Comprehensive High School.
Thrift Store and Home Center: Located at 725 E. Robert Toombs Ave. in Washington. Hours of Operation: Friday, Saturday and Monday from 9 a.m. - noon. The Thrift Store offers beautiful, slightly worn clothes and shoes for sale at deeply discounted prices. The Home Center offers household items, books and other miscellaneous items for sale at discounted prices. Donations are accepted during open hours. Money raised from the Thrift Store and Home Center is used to fund the Food Pantry.
God's Marketplace is a 501(c)3 corporation and can receive donations of money or items for our Food Pantry, Thrift Store, Home Center or other projects.
God's Marketplace is primarily operated by volunteers. If you'd like to help, please contact Rhonda Keen at 706-678-6363 (Thrift Store and Home Center). To volunteer for Stephens House contact Pastor Alec George at 706-564-3342.
